"Life happens a second at a time." Don't know who said it, but truer words have never been spoken. Every second that ticks by is potentially a missed opportunity for something. Time lost that could have been spent creating memories, making the world a better place, preparing for the future are traded for "Today I sat around doing nothing."

Think of the amount of time you spend sitting around with nothing to do on a daily basis. Think of how long you may have sat around your house/apartment yesterday or how long you may have nothing to do today. Think of that in terms of the year. A few hours a day spent with a friend, or helping to clean a public area (park, highway, whatever), or volunteering with a charity group. Those fleeting moments add up, and by the end of the year you would be able to count out enough time to add up to days spent doing something of quality.

I am by no means balking at taking time for ourselves, as that's important too; but how much time do we really need alone verses spending time with someone that needed. Helping out has it's own reward and can leave us feeling more relaxed and at peace than if we had kept that time for ourselves.
